The Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC) was adopted by the European Parliament and the European Administrative Council.

Since May 29, 2002, the Pressure Equipment Directive is mandatory in the whole European Union and replaces all the existing national legislation which manages drawings, manufacturing and tests of pressure equipments. Thus, gas springs manufactured after May 29, 2002, must comply with the requirements of the New Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC).
